A telecommunication system includes core network nodes (1 A1 1A2... and 1B1 1B2 1B3...) and radio nodes (5 7). Each of the radio nodes is connected to several core network nodes and have configuration data for the links between the radio node and each of the core network nodes to which it is connected. The configuration data include e.g. information on which of said core network nodes is to be used when the radio node receives a request for a call from a mobile station (9) and is to set up a communication through the radio node. When one of the links is to be setup or is changed the configuration information to be used for this link is sent from the core network node at one end of the link to the radio node at the opposite end of the link. The 0 receiving radio node then stores the configuration e.g. in a suitable list. This method of configuring the links can eliminate the manual operations used in current telecommunication systems which particularly in the case where the system includes a large number of radio nodes connected to a plurality of core network nodes can be very advantageous.
