Abstract
A method of multiplexing users over a shared data packet data traffic channel, a system for multiplexing users. A Quick Notification Access Channel is used in a system to multiplex users over a cellular data packet traffic channel shared in a cellular packet data network system. The system includes a mobile station that has a mobile station control system. The mobile station control system transmits packet data on the shared packet data traffic channel to a base station until it reaches an inactive period, and having additional data to transmit, transmits a notification signal to the base station , a notification signal that uniquely identifies the mobile station on the data traffic channel by shared cellular packets. The network control system assigns uplink on the data channel per shared packet to the mobile station after receiving the notification signal until the mobile station reaches the inactive period.
