Abstract  Abstract

MOBILE COMMUNICATION DEVICE, MOBILE COMMUNICATION SYSTEM, AND, PROCESS FOR USE IN A COMMUNICATION SYSTEM. It is subscription-based information that is used in a mobile telecommunications system to control operations in idle mode of a mobile station. In one aspect, cell-related information is diffused from cells. A mobile station then uses the cell information received to determine whether any given cell is part of a previously defined service area that is reserved to be used only by certain subscribers excluding other subscribers. Cell-related information may consist of a cell identifying element that unmistakably identifies a corresponding cell, or alternatively may consist of a service area identifying element that unmistakably identifies a service area comprising one or more cells. In either case, the mobile terminal performs its determination by accessing a memory such as a Subscriber Information Module (SIM), and retrieving from it the same stored information that define previously defined service areas. In another aspect, the SIM can store information that identifies preferred cells for the mobile station to listen in during idle mode.
