Abstract
A method and apparatus are provided for dynamic resource allocation scheduling and signaling for variable data real time services (RTS) in long term evolution (LTE) systems. Preferably changes in data rate for uplink RTS traffic are reported to an evolved Node B (eNB) by a UE using layer 1 2 or 3 signaling. The eNB dynamically allocates physical resources in response to a change in data rate by adding or removing radio blocks currently assigned to the data flow and the eNB signals the new resource assignment to the UE. In an alternate embodiment tables stored at the eNB and the UE describe mappings of RTS data rates to physical resources under certain channel conditions such that the UE uses the table to locally assign physical resources according to changes in UL data rates. Additionally a method and apparatus for high level configuration of RTS data flows is also presented.

1. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) comprising:means for receiving a first allocation of resources for uplink communications;means for transmitting uplink communications according to the first allocation of resources;means for receiving control information indicating a second allocation of resources for uplink communications; and means for transmitting uplink communications according to the second allocation of resources for a predetermined time duration and transmitting uplink communications according to the first allocation of resources after the predetermined time duration.
2. The WTRU of claim 1 wherein the second allocation of resources overrides the first allocation of resources during the predetermined time duration.
3. The WTRU of claim 1 wherein the control information is received as L1/L2 control information.
4. The WTRU of claim 3 wherein the L1/L2 control information is received in an orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) format.
5. The WTRU of any one of claims 1 to 4 wherein the predetermined time duration is a single subframe.
6. A method for dynamic resource allocation comprising:receiving a first allocation of resources for uplink communications; transmitting uplink communications according to the first allocation of resources; receiving control information indicating a second allocation of resources for uplink communications; and transmitting uplink communications according to the second allocation of resources for a predetermined time duration and transmitting uplink communications according to the first allocation of resources after the predetermined time duration.
7. The method of claim 6 wherein the second allocation of resources overrides the first allocation of resources during the predetermined time duration.
8. The method of claim 7 wherein the control information is received as L1/L2 control information.
9. The method of claim 8 wherein the L1/L2 control information is received in an orthogonal frequency division multiple access, (OFDMA), format

A base station comprising:means for transmitting to a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) a first allocation of resources for uplink communications;means for receiving, from the WTRU, uplink communications according to the first allocation of resources;means for transmitting, to the WTRU, control information indicating a second allocation of resources for uplink communications; and means for receiving, from the WTRU, uplink communications according to the second allocation of resources for a predetermined time duration and receiving uplink communications according to the first allocation of resources after the predetermined time duration

A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) comprising:means for receiving a first allocation of resources for downlink communications;means for receiving downlink communications according to the first allocation of resources;means for receiving control information indicating a second allocation of resources for downlink communications; and means for receiving downlink communications according to the second allocation of resources for a predetermined time duration and receiving downlink communications according to the first allocation of resources after the predetermined time duration
13. The WTRU of claim 12 wherein the second allocation of resources overrides the first allocation of resources during the predetermined time duration

18. The method of claim 17 wherein the second allocation of resources overrides the first allocation of resources during the predetermined time duration

A base station comprising:means for transmitting to a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) a first allocation of resources for downlink communications;means for transmitting, to the WTRU, downlink communications according to the first allocation of resources; means for transmitting, to the WTRU, control information indicating a second allocation of resources for downlink communications; and means for transmitting, to the WTRU, downlink communications according to the second allocation of resources for a predetermined time duration and transmitting downlink communications according to the first allocation of resources after the predetermined time duration.

A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) comprising:a means for receiving a first allocation of resources for uplink data, wherein the first allocation of resources is a first type of resource allocation, wherein the first allocation of resources indicates at least a first number of resource blocks assigned to the WTRU;a means for transmitting uplink data according to the first allocation of resources;a means for receiving control information indicating a second allocation of resources for uplink data, wherein the second allocation of resources is a second type of resource allocation, wherein the second allocation of resources indicates at least a second number of resource blocks assigned to the WTRU;a means for transmitting uplink data according to the second allocation of resources for a predetermined time duration; and a means for transmitting uplink data according to the first allocation of resources after the predetermined time duration.
24. The WTRU of claim 23 wherein the second allocation of resources overrides the first allocation of resources during the predetermined time duration.
25. The WTRU of claim 23 wherein the control information is received as L1/L2 control information.
26. The WTRU of claim 25 wherein the L1/L2 control information is received in an orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) format.
27. The WTRU of claim 23 wherein the predetermined time duration is a single subframe.
28. The WTRU of claim 27 wherein:the means for transmitting uplink data according to the first allocation of resources after the predetermined time duration transmits in a next subframe adjacent to the single subframe.
29. The WTRU of claim 23 wherein the first allocation of resources is associated with a first data rate and the second allocation of resources is associated with a second data rate different from the first data rate.
30. The WTRU of claim 23 wherein the WTRU operates in a real time system (RTS).
31. The WTRU of claim 23 wherein the WTRU operates in a voice over internet protocol (IP) (VOIP) environment.
32. The WTRU of claim 23 wherein the first number of resource blocks indicates a first number of subchannels assigned to the WTRU and the second number of resource blocks indicates a second number of subchannels assigned to the WTRU.
33. The WTRU of claim 23 wherein the first allocation of resources is utilized for transmitting uplink data until the WTRU receives a deallocation of the first allocation of resources.
34. The WTRU of claim 23 further comprising:a means for retransmitting uplink data according to the second allocation of resources for the predetermined time duration.
35. The WTRU of claim 23 wherein:the first allocation of resources is different from the second allocation of resources and wherein the first allocation of resources and the second allocation of resources are distinguished by different identifications (IDs).
36. A method for dynamic resource allocation comprising: receiving a first allocation of resources for uplink data, wherein the first allocation of resources indicates at least a first number of resource blocks assigned to the WTRU;transmitting uplink data according to the first allocation of resources;receiving control information indicating a second allocation of resources for uplink data, wherein the second allocation of resources indicates at least a second number of resource blocks assigned to the WTRU;transmitting uplink data according to the second allocation of resources for a predetermined time duration; and transmitting uplink data according to the first allocation of resources after the predetermined time duration.
37. The method of claim 36 wherein the second allocation of resources overrides the first allocation of resources during the predetermined time duration.
38. The method of claim 36 wherein the control information is received as L1/L2 control information.
39. The method of claim 38 wherein the L1/L2 control information is received in an orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) format.
40. The method of claim 36 wherein the predetermined time duration is a single subframe.
41. The method of claim 40 wherein:the uplink data transmitted according to the first allocation of resources after the predetermined time duration is transmitted in a next subframe adjacent to the single subframe.
42. The method of claim 36 wherein the first allocation of resources is associated with a first data rate and the second allocation of resources is associated with a second data rate different from the first data rate.
43. The method of claim 36 wherein the dynamic resource allocation is in a real time system (RTS).
44. The method of claim 36 wherein the dynamic resource allocation is in a voice over internet protocol (IP) (VOIP) environment.

A base station comprising:a means for transmitting to a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) a first allocation of resources for uplink data, wherein the first allocation of resources indicates at least a first number of resource blocks assigned to the WTRU;a means for receiving from the WTRU uplink data according to the first allocation of resources;a means for transmitting to the WTRU control information indicating a second allocation of resources for uplink data, wherein the second allocation of resources indicates at least a second number of resource blocks assigned to the WTRU; and a means for receiving from the WTRU uplink data according to the second allocation of resources for a predetermined time duration and receiving uplink data according to the first allocation of resources after the predetermined time duration.
50. The base station of claim 49 wherein the second allocation of resources overrides the first allocation of resources during the predetermined time duration.
51. The base station of claim 49 wherein the control information is transmitted as L1/L2 control information.
52. The base station of claim 49 wherein the L1/L2 control information is transmitted in an orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) format.

54. The base station of claim 53 wherein the uplink communications received according to the first allocation of resources after the predetermined time duration are received in a next subframe adjacent to the single subframe.

A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) comprising:a means for receiving a first allocation of resources for downlink data, wherein the first allocation of resources indicates at least a first number of resource blocks assigned to the WTRU;a means for receiving downlink data according to the first allocation of resources;a means for receiving control information indicating a second allocation of resources for downlink data, wherein the second allocation of resources indicates at least a second number of resource blocks assigned to the WTRU; and a means for receiving downlink data according to the second allocation of resources for a predetermined time duration and receiving downlink data according to the first allocation of resources after the predetermined time duration.
