The invention claims a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) a method and a wireless network device. the WTRU comprising: a processor configured to send channel quality indication at regular intervals (CQI) on the uplink channel; wherein the processor is further configured for a radio network temporary identity (RNTI) monitors a downlink channel associated with the WTRU is further configured to in response to detecting the RNTI associated with the WTRU determining whether the wireless network is requesting the WTRU sends the CQI wherein the processor and wherein the processor further is configured to request for the WTRU to send the CQI and transmits the CQI to the wireless network in response to determining that the wireless network.
