Abstract  Abstract

A method and radio node (500) for enabling high order modulation such as 256QAM in LTE. The first table configuration comprises at least one of a first modulation and coding scheme, MCS, table and a first channel quality indicator, CQI, table, which tables support a certain maximum modulation order. When the radio node (500) detects that it is potentially possible to use a modulation order higher than the maximum modulation order of the first table configuration in the radio communication, the radio node (500) instructs the first UE (502) to apply a second table configuration comprising at least one of a second MCS table and a second CQI table, the second table supporting a higher modulation order. If it is desired to use at least one modulation order of the first table configuration when applying the second table configuration, at least one entry of at least one modulation order in the table of the first table configuration is maintained in the table of the second table configuration as a backup. So that higher data rates can be achieved in radio communications. The conventional MCS table and the new MCS table with entries with 256QAM are provided with signaling to switch between these tables.
