Abstract  Abstract

The invention claims in a high data rate system for monitoring on the forward link of a method wherein only when the base station has data to send to the access terminal the base station can be transmitted to the access terminal on a forward traffic channel. the base station periodically sends the configuration packets to the access terminal so that the worst-case minimum time period the worst-case time period is disconnected and recovered traffic channel resource necessary for the back time period. the configuration packet indicates the allocation state belonging to the traffic channel of the base station of. if an access terminal receives one or all traffic channel is de-allocated configured packet indicates the same then the access terminal immediately stops using the traffic channel. if the access terminal within a predetermined monitoring time failing to successfully decoding the packet of one configuration then the access terminal transmits disconnection and connection between all base stations and the associated traffic channel.

A method of supervising on the forward link in a high data rate system is disclosed wherein a base station transmits to an access terminal on a forward traffic channel only when the base station has data to send to the access terminal. The base station minimizes the worst-case period necessary to reclaim traffic channel resources following a release by periodically transmitting a configuration packet to its access terminals. The configuration packet indicates the allocation status of the traffic channels belonging to the base station. If an access terminal receives a configuration packet indicating the deallocation of one or all of its traffic channels the access terminal immediately ceases its use of those traffic channels. If an access terminal fails to successfully decode a configuration packet for a predetermined supervision time the access terminal releases its connection with all base stations and associated traffic channels.
