Abstract
a communication system (200) provides a mobile station (MS) 202 is pre-registered to service as a switching candidate adjacent routing area (RA) (208) Serving GPRS Support Node (SGSN) (250). the pre-registered to adjacent RA and SGSN before by the associated neighboring BSS (230) serving the MS such as the MS is started prior to switching to the adjacent BSS MS at least partially registered to the RA and SGSN that is transmits the registration information at least part of MS to service adjacent adjacent SGSN RA. by a pre-registered to the candidate SGSN reduces when the MS switches to the SGSN the registering process and the duration of the corresponding service terminal.
A communication system (200) provides for a mobile station (MS) (202) to pre-register with a Serving GPRS Support Node (SGSN) (250) servicing a neighboring Routing Area (RA) (208) that is a handoff candidate. In pre-registering with the neighboring RA and SGSN the MS at least partially registers with the RA and SGSN that is at least a portion of the MSs registration information is conveyed to the neighboring SGSN serving the neighboring RA prior to the MS being served by an associated neighboring BSS (230) for example prior to an initiation of a handoff of the MS to the neighboring BSS. By pre-registering with the candidate SGSN a duration of a registration process and the corresponding service disruptions when the MS is handed off to such an SGSN are reduced.
