Abstract  Abstract

A paging method wherein a first user (A) wishes to paging a person and transmits a message to a second user (B) using a paging service. The first user (A) requests a paging from the second user (B) at a paging center (1) which offers an alarm service and a message service which supplements the alarm with a message. The paging center (1) alerts the second user (B) using an alarm service. The invention is characterized in that the paging service is not associated with any particular telecommunications network, but can be applied to at least one telecommunications network (for example, in N1 and N5) , selected from at least two possible telecommunications networks (N1-N5). The message service is also independent of the alarm service in the sense that this message service is not triggered until the second user receives the request. The alarm service uses the aforementioned first telecommunications network (N1 and N5) while the message service uses at least one telecommunications network (N1-N5) selectively different from the first mentioned network (N1 and N5). The message is not transmitted until the above request is received.
