Abstract
A method and apparatus are described for performing a dual-carrier operation. A first timer is initiated for an anchor carrier and a second timer is initiated for a supplementary carrier. A physical channel failure may be declared on a condition that either of the timers expire before a predefined number of in-synch indication received from a layer 1 (L1) entity is counted. Uplink transmission and enhanced dedicated channel (E-DCH) operations may be stopped on a supplementary carrier associated with the physical channel failure but may be continued on an anchor carrier that has a physical channel established. If the physical channel failure is associated with the anchor carrier uplink transmission and E-DCH transmission operations are stopped on all carriers.

Claim
1. A method, implemented by a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU), of performing a dual- carrier operation, the method comprising: initiating a first timer for an anchor carrier; initiating a second timer for a supplementary carrier; monitoring in-synch indications for the anchor carrier using a first counter; monitoring in-synch indications for the supplementary carrier using a second counter; and declaring a physical channel failure on a condition that either of the first timer or second timer expires before a predefined number of in-synch indications is counted by one of the counters.
2. The method of claim 1 wherein the WTRU stops uplink transmission on the carrier associated with the physical channel failure and continues uplink transmission on the carrier that has a physical channel established.
3. The method of claim 1 wherein the in-synch indications are received from a layer 1 (Ll) entity.

The method of claim 1 further comprising stopping uplink transmission and enhanced dedicated channel (E-DCH) operations on the supplementary carrier on the condition that the physical channel failure is declared on the supplementary carrier, and continue uplink and E-DCH transmission operations on the anchor carrier.', '-31-1189059-1
5. The method of claim 1 further comprising stopping and resetting the first and second timers before expiring on a condition that a predefined number of in- synch indications is counted by one of the counters.

A method, implemented by a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU), of performing a dual- carrier operation, the method comprising: monitoring out-of-synch indications for an anchor carrier using a first counter; monitoring out-of-synch indications for a supplementary carrier using a second counter; initiate a first timer on a condition that a first predefined number of out-of- synch indications is reached for the anchor carrier as determined by the first counter; initiate a second timer on a condition that a second predefined number of out-of-synch indications is reached for the supplementary carrier as determined by the second counter; monitoring in- synch indications for the anchor carrier using a third counter; monitoring in- synch indications for the supplementary carrier using a fourth counter; and stopping and resetting the first and second timers on a condition that a predefined number of in- synch indications is counted by the third and fourth counters.

The method of claim 6 further comprising: declaring a radio link failure on the anchor carrier on a condition that the first timer expired before a predefined number of in- synch indications is counted by the third counter; stopping uplink transmission and enhanced dedicated channel (E-DCH) transmission operations on all carriers; and initiating a cell update procedure.
9. The method of claim 8 further comprising: stopping downlink reception and high speed downlink shared channel (HS- DSCH) operations on all carriers

The method of claim 6 further comprising: declaring a radio link failure on the supplementary carrier on a condition that the second timer expires before a predefined number of in-synch indications is counted by the fourth counter; and stopping uplink transmission and enhanced dedicated channel (E-DCH) transmission operations on the supplementary carrier

A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) for performing a dual- carrier operation, the WTRU comprising: a first timer; a second timer; a first counter configured to monitor in-synch indications for an anchor carrier after the first timer is initiated; and a second counter configured to monitor in-synch indications for a supplementary carrier after the second timer is initiated, wherein a physical channel failure is declared on a condition that either of the first timer or the', '-33-1189059-1 second timer expire before a predefined number of in- synch indications is counted by one of the counters
12. The WTRU of claim 11 wherein the WTRU stops uplink transmission on the carrier associated with the physical channel failure and continues uplink transmission on the carrier that has a physical channel established
