Abstract  Abstract

A method for transmitting data from a transmitting unit to a receiving unit in a multiple input and multiple output communication system (MIMO), comprising: in the receiving unit, receiving a plurality of signals through a plurality of receiving antennas , wherein the signal received from each receiving antenna comprises a combination of one or more signals transmitted from the transmitting unit, processing the received signals to obtain channel status information (CSI) indicative of characteristics of a plurality of transmission channels used for data transmission, and transmit the CSI back to the transmitter unit; and in the transmitting unit, receiving the CSI from the receiving unit, and processing data for transmission to the receiving unit based on the received CSI, characterized in that the presented CSI comprises estimates of the signal-to-noise plus interference ratio (SNR) for each one of the plurality of transmission channels, and in which the processing in the transmitter unit includes encoding data for each transmission channel based on the SNR estimate for the transmission channel.
