Abstract
A method (600) for synchronizing wireless nodes in a wireless communications network, comprising the following steps carried out by a wireless node (402, 204, 206): receiving (602) at least one quality metric related to one or more other wireless nodes (404, 204,206) by an air interface or by an underlying network component; select (604) a target wireless node (404), with which to synchronize the timing, from one or more other wireless nodes (404, 204, 206) based on, at least in part, the quality metric received; and synchronizing (606) the timing with the target wireless node (404), in which the quality metric comprises an indication of a priority of the target wireless node (404,204, 206) and selecting the target wireless node (404) comprises selecting the target wireless node (404) based on the priority of the wireless node (404, 204, 206).
