Abstract  Abstract

A CDMA communication system comprises mobile subscribers 1 2 anchor and branch base stations 3-6 connected to mobile switching centres 7 and 8 which are in turn connected to a gateway mobile switching centre 9 and multicast communication servers 10 11. A multicast request is sent to at least one anchor station along with area information details. The start and content of multicast information distribution are notified to the mobile subscribers via a broadcast channel. The spreading code to be used may also be transmitted. Multicast information is then transmitted from the anchor and branch stations according to the received area information and after a time delay.
