Abstract  Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a method for efficiently support data calls to WTRUs (101 102 and 103) in systems that also support a telephone set.

SOLUTION: Various types of data are transmitted on a known schedule which is precisely synchronized to a predetermined time slot (56) in a time frame (54). The WTRUs (101 102 and 103) synchronize their wake-up periods to search for data during their respective allocated time periods when data may actually be transmitted to them resulting in reduced power consumption in their quiescent states corresponding to the ignored frames.
