Abstract
Method and apparatus for antenna control in a wireless terminal A base station transmits a strip signal using a strip signal segment and an autonomous modulation technique that facilitates rapid channel estimation. A strip segment occupies one OFDM symbol time interval and uses a set of downlink tones. Some (eg, half) of these tones are left unused to facilitate SIR measurements. The strip segments are advantageously timed to correspond to uplink access time intervals during which connected wireless terminals normally do not transmit uplink signals. The connected wireless terminal includes a plurality of antennas used in combination, an antenna simultaneous transmission / reception module, a single RF receiver chain, and a single RF transmitter chain, and an antenna factor based on strip signal segment timing Switch joins. The wireless terminal determines independent downlink channel quality measurements (eg, SNR and / or SIR for each strip signal segment, and SNR and / or SIR for an ongoing non-strip carrier).
