Abstract  Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and method for uplink timing synchronization in conjunction with discontinuous reception.

SOLUTION: There are provided system and method for controlling sounding reference signal transmission. User equipment starts transmitting the sounding reference signal in anticipation of uplink data transmission and then discontinues transmitting the sounding reference signal after completion of the uplink data transmission. In one embodiment a method of uplink reference signal transmission in user equipment comprises: starting uplink reference signal transmission in anticipation of transmitting uplink data; transmitting uplink data after starting uplink reference signal transmission; and continuing uplink reference signal transmission until completion of transmission of the uplink data.
