Abstract  Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide techniques for combating high interference in a dominant interference scenario.

SOLUTION: A terminal observes high interference from an interfering base station in a dominant interference scenario. High interference may be combated by reserving time intervals for a serving base station. The terminal communicates with the serving base station in the reserved time intervals and avoids high interference that may desensitize a receiver at the terminal. In one design the terminal measures received power of base stations and reports its interference condition. The serving base station receives the report determines that the terminal is observing high interference and sends a reservation request to the interfering base station to reserve time intervals. The interfering base station grants the request and returns a response. The serving base station thereafter communicates with the terminal in the reserved time intervals.
