Abstract  Abstract

The present disclosure relates to using dedicated reference subframes in cellular communication systems. According to one embodiment, the base station can transmit the reference signal in a dedicated synchronization and measurement reference subframe. Neighboring base stations can also transmit reference signals in dedicated reference subframes in a time aligned (synchronized) manner. The reference signal transmitted by each base station may be orthogonal to the reference signal transmitted by each adjacent base station. Reference subframes may be transmitted periodically, and data subframes may be transmitted between reference subframes. If it is assumed that a dedicated reference subframe is used, the function of the cell-specific reference symbol may not be necessary, and therefore part or all of the data subframe may not include the cell-specific reference symbol.
