Abstract  Abstract

Disclosed is a method of transmitting control information in a system supporting multiple modulation schemes for delivering voice or control information. To provide backward compatibility, the dedicated control channel uses the modulation schemes used in current systems, such as GMSK. The traffic channel and associated control channel use the same symbol rate. The modulation scheme of the associated control channel uses a reduced set of signals compared to the modulation scheme used for the traffic channel. In-band signaling processing is also used to inform the receiving station of the modulation type, channel coding and speech coding used in the transmission burst.
