Abstract  Abstract

An apparatus and a method for calibrating an RF(Radio Frequency) path error of a mobile communication system having multi antennas are provided to calibrate phase errors and gain errors on an RF path by controlling a phase value of a phase converter and gains of a variable amplifier on the RF path by calculating the minimum value of the sum of an initialized reference signal and a comparison signal. An RF transmission path error calibrating unit generates a transmission reference signal having the same size as an IF(Intermediate Frequency) transmission signal(A) and having 180 degrees phase difference, measures a first analog power value by summing up the generated transmission reference signal and an IF transmission signal(B) passing through an RF transmission path, converts the measured first analog power value into a first digital value and calibrates a phase value of a phase converter and gains of a variable amplifier on a transmission path by using the first digital value so that the first analog power value has the minimum value. An RF reception path error calibrating unit generates a reception reference signal having the same size as an IF transmission signal(A) and having 180 degrees phase difference, measures second first analog power value by summing up the generated reception reference signal and an IF transmission signal(C) leaked through an RF reception path, converts the measured second analog power value into a second digital value and calibrates a phase value of a phase converter and gains of a variable amplifier on a reception path by using the second digital value so that the second analog power value has the minimum value.
