Abstract  Abstract

Methods and systems are provided for communicating control data for multiple data channels using a single control channel. In one embodiment, the method may be implemented in a WCDMA communication system. The method comprises combining at the mobile station data rate information for the first data channel and data rate information for the second data channel, encoding the combined data rate information, encoding from the mobile station to the base station via a single control channel; Transmitting the combined data rate information. Furthermore, the method comprises receiving encoded and combined data rate information at a base station, decoding the encoded and combined data rate information to generate combined data rate information, for the first and second data channels. Extracting data rate information and using the information to decode the first and second data channels.
