Abstract  Abstract

Systems and methods are described in connection with facilitating signaling and detection of discontinuous transmission (DTX) in a wireless communication environment. The DTX channel indicator and channel quality indicator (CQI) feedback may be multiplexed within the uplink control channel subframe and may be sent to the base station when the access terminal is operating in DTX mode for an acknowledgment (ACK) channel. . In addition, when operating in the non-DTX mode, the access terminal multiplexes the ACK indicator or NAK indicator with CQI feedback within a common uplink control channel subframe, which may then be forwarded to the base station. Thus, the base station can detect the DTX operation or the non-DTX operation of the access terminal. According to one example, the reference signal symbols can carry one of a DTX indicator, an ACK indicator, or a NAK indicator. In relation to another example, the CQI feedback and DTX indicator may be combined and carried together by non-reference signal symbols.
