Abstract  Abstract

In a wireless communication network, a serving gateway support node controls connections between user equipment nodes and a packet based network, through at least one serving gateway and at least one packet gateway. The serving gateway support node detects a failure of communication to the first serving gateway. The serving gateway support node initiates relocation of its existing connections so that existing connections through the first serving gateway instead pass through the second serving gateway in response to the detected failure. The serving gateway support node detects the recovery of communication to the first serving gateway and in response stops the relocation of at least some existing connections that have not yet been relocated to the second serving gateway among the existing connections. Related methods, serving gateways, and packet gateways are also disclosed.
