Abstract
A method and apparatus for transmitting and receiving broadcast channels in a cellular communication system are disclosed. The transmission method of the present invention comprises the steps of repeating symbols including information of a broadcast channel according to a predetermined number of repetitions, code covering the repeated symbols according to a code selected from a predetermined code set, and the code covered Subcarrier mapping symbols, and transmitting the subcarrier mapped symbols using different beams at a plurality of predetermined positions within a frame. Here, the code is selected from the code set according to a predetermined rule based on the number of repetitions, a cell identifier and a sweep index, and the sweep index indicates how many times the broadcast channel is transmitted in the frame.
