Abstract
In one embodiment, a method in a user equipment (UE) for random access (RA) coverage enhancement (CE) is described. The method includes transmitting a random access preamble to the UE, where the power of the random access preamble is determined in part by the current CE level. The method further includes increasing the counter value by 1, where the counter value indicates the number of random access preambles previously transmitted by the UE. The method can compare the counter value to the transmission limit after incrementing the counter value, and the transmission limit indicates the maximum number of random access preamble transmission attempts for the current CE level. In response to the counter becoming equal to the transmission limit plus 1, the method includes resetting the counter value.
