Abstract  Abstract

The wireless communication system has a random access channel for transmitting data 214 from the second station to the first station. Such a channel is intended to be used by a second station having data 214 for transmission to the first station while not actually in a call. By allowing an access request 202 to be sent with a range of time offsets relative to its time slot boundary 302, a much greater number of degrees of freedom request access to a random access channel. Valid for the second station. This allows for significantly improved resource allocation efficiency by increasing the amount of information sent to the first station by the access request 202.
