Abstract  Abstract

PURPOSE: A channel estimation system and a method in a mobile communication system using OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) technique are provided to increase an accuracy in channel estimation by using training symbols and a linear interpolation technique. CONSTITUTION: A transmitter(300) includes first and second transmission antennas, each of which transmits signals on at least one odd numbered carrier and at least one even numbered carrier. The transmitter generates first and second symbols which are used for an initial channel estimation of the transmitter. The transmitted encodes the first and second symbols using a predetermined transmission diversity technique during a predetermined setting interval and transmits the result to a receiver on each of the odd numbered carriers and the even numbered carriers of the first and second antennas. The receiver(350) receives the signal and obtains channel frequency responses of odd numbered carriers of the first transmission antenna and channel frequency responses of even numbered carriers of the second transmission antenna. The receiver estimates channel frequency responses of even numbered carriers of the first transmission antenna and channel frequency responses of odd numbered carriers of the second transmission antenna by using the obtained channel frequency responses.
