Abstract  Abstract

PURPOSE: A method for transmitting reference signals in a downlink multiple input multiple output system is provided to efficiently transmit a pilot symbol to both a user device of an existing system and a newly added user device. CONSTITUTION: A base station groups a fixed number of sub frames or resource blocks to transmit a common reference signal for M transmission antennas. The base station transmits the sub frames or resource blocks to the second user device at a specific period. A common reference signal corresponding to a different transmission antenna port is mapped in each of the sub frames or resources blocks.
