Abstract  Abstract

The present invention relates to a solution for addressing the security problem of non-access stratum (NAS) signaling in telecommunications network 100. NAS signaling is performed between a user equipment (UE) and a mobility management node, such as a mobile line management object (MME). The solution is realized in an apparatus and a method, the method comprising receiving an initial non-access stratum message from a user equipment 101 (UE) in wireless communication with a telecommunications network 105, and establishing a security context state for the UE. Determining a non-encryption mode should be used in the security context, setting an encryption algorithm for a null encryption algorithm, and information indicating the encryption algorithm, the security context and an active message to the UE. Transmitting and receiving a security context activation grant message from the UE.
