Abstract  Abstract

Embodiments of systems and methods for identifying and distinguishing background traffic are generally described herein. In some embodiments, a transceiver is configured to wirelessly transmit and receive packets over a communications network, and a processor coupled to the transceiver is configured to provide an indication to identify packets associated with background traffic. The indication identifying the packet associated with the background traffic includes identifying in the header of the packet a port number and a protocol type associated with a bit or background traffic associated with the background traffic, said bit indicating a first state And the bit is set to a second state indicating that the packet is associated with active traffic. The processor is further configured to provide an indication to distinguish background traffic.
