Abstract  Abstract

Efficient transmission of data by symbol accumulation, where data packets received incorrectly are redirected at a lower level of energy per digit, but at the same time with a new data packet and in the same sequence or frame as this one. A receiver location which may be a remote station (6) in a communication network receives the data transmission and retransmission, demodulates the signals and separates the received data into a new and a transmitted packet. Thereafter, an accumulation of the energy of the transmitted packet is performed with the energy already accumulated for the packets received by error, after which the accumulated packet is decoded, all at the destination. The accumulation of the additional energy provided by the subsequent transmissions improves the probability of correct decoding. The transmission capacity can then be improved since packets received with errors are resent together with the main transmission of the new data packet. Capacity is brought to a maximum since the transmission of the packet which was first received with errors occurs at a lower energy level than when sending the new packet.
