Abstract
A method includes transmitting a RAN profile indexing message from a cell to a user equipment (UE) within the cells radio coverage, the RAN profile indexing message comprising a plurality of sets of RAN parameters corresponding to a plurality of physical layer configurations, and a plurality of indices corresponding to the plurality of sets of RAN parameters. The method also includes transmitting a downlink control information message to the UE indicating a resource block allocated for the UE, and an index corresponding to one of the plurality of sets of RAN parameters. The method further includes performing a RAN profile indexing operation to define the plurality of sets of RAN parameters corresponding to a plurality of physical layer configurations, and assigning the plurality of indices to the plurality of sets of RAN parameters.

Claim
1. A method for signaling radio access network (RAN) profile index, the method comprising:
transmitting, by a cell, a RAN profile indexing message to a user equipment (UE), the RAN profile indexing message comprising a plurality of sets of RAN parameters corresponding to a plurality of physical layer configurations, and a plurality of indices corresponding to the plurality of sets of RAN parameters; and transmitting, by the cell, a downlink control information (DCI) message to the UE indicating a resource block (RB) allocated for the UE, and an index corresponding to one of the plurality of sets of RAN parameters.
2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:
performing, by the cell, a RAN profile indexing operation to define the plurality of sets of RAN parameters corresponding to the plurality of physical layer configurations; and assigning, by the cell, the plurality of indices to the plurality of RAN parameters.
3. The method of claim 1, further comprising:
receiving, by the cell, a confirm message from the UE indicating at least one of the plurality of indices that the UE does not support.
4. The method of claim 1, further comprising:
receiving, by the cell, an acknowledge message from the UE indicating that the UE supports all of the plurality of indices after transmitting the RAN profile indexing message.
5. The method of claim 3, wherein the transmitting, by the cell, the DCI message to the UE is based on the confirm message received from the UE.
6. The method of claim 3, further comprising:
re-configuring, by the cell, the plurality of sets of RAN parameters and the corresponding plurality of indices based on the confirm message; and transmitting a radio resource control (RRC) message to the UE indicating changes to the plurality of sets of RAN parameters and the corresponding plurality of indices; wherein the changes to the plurality of sets of RAN parameters and the corresponding plurality of indices further comprise at least one of adding a new index for a new set of RAN parameters, removing an existing index, modifying one of the plurality of sets of RAN parameters, and canceling at least one of the plurality of indices.
7. The method of claim 1, further comprising:
counting, by the cell, a predefined time interval after transmitting the RAN profile indexing message to the UE, wherein during the predefined time interval, the cell maintains the plurality of sets of RAN parameters and the corresponding plurality of indices.
8. The method of claim 7, further comprising:
re-configuring, by the cell, after an expiration of the predefined time interval, the plurality of sets of RAN parameters and the corresponding plurality of indices; and transmitting an RRC message to the UE indicating the re-configured plurality of sets of RAN parameters and the corresponding plurality of indices.
9. The method of claim 1, wherein the cell broadcasts the RAN profile indexing message using a system information (SI) message.
10. The method of claim 1, wherein the cell broadcasts the RAN profile indexing message periodically using a broadcasting channel (BCH).
11. The method of claim 1, wherein the cell signals the RAN profile indexing message to the UE using a unicast RRC message.
12. The method of claim 11, wherein the cell signals the RAN profile indexing message to the UE upon receiving a request.
13. The method of claim 1, wherein each of the plurality of sets of physical layer configurations comprises at least one of a subcarrier spacing value, a channel coding mode and cyclic prefix length value, a transmission time interval (TTI) value, and a multiplexing mode.
14. A method for signaling radio access network (RAN) profile index, the method comprising:
transmitting, by a cell, a first RAN profile indexing message to a first user equipment (UE), and a second RAN profile indexing message to a second UE, wherein the first RAN profile indexing message comprises a first plurality of sets of RAN parameters corresponding to a first plurality of physical layer configurations, and a first plurality of indices corresponding to the first plurality of sets of RAN parameters, wherein the second RAN profile indexing message comprises a second plurality of sets of RAN parameters corresponding to a second plurality of physical layer configurations, and a second plurality of indices corresponding to the second plurality of sets of RAN parameters; transmitting, by the cell, a first downlink control information (DCI) message to the first UE indicating a first resource block (RB) allocated for the first UE, and a first index corresponding to one of the first plurality of sets of RAN parameters, and a second DCI message to the second UE indicating a second RB allocated for the second UE, and a second index corresponding to one of the second plurality of sets of RAN parameters.
15. The method of claim 14, wherein the first RAN profile indexing message is the same as the second RAN profile indexing message.
16. The method of claim 14, wherein at least one of the first plurality of sets of RAN parameters in the first RAN profile indexing message is different from a corresponding one of the second plurality of sets of RAN parameters in the second RAN profile indexing message.
17. The method of claim 14, further comprising:
receiving, by the cell, a first confirm message from the first UE, and a second confirm message from the second UE; wherein the first confirm message indicates at least one of the first plurality of indices that the first UE does not support; wherein the second confirm message indicates at least one of the second plurality of indices that the second UE does not support.
18. A radio communication equipment comprising:
a communication module coupled to an antenna module, the communication module configured to communicate with at least one user equipment (UE); a processor coupled the communication module; and a memory coupled the processor, the memory configured to store instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to:
transmit, through the communication module, a RAN profile indexing message to the at least one UE, the RAN profile indexing message comprising a plurality of sets of RAN parameters corresponding to a plurality of physical layer configurations, and a plurality of indices corresponding to the plurality of sets of RAN parameters; and
transmit, through the communication module, a downlink control information (DCI) message to the at least one UE indicating a resource block (RB) allocated for the UE, and an index corresponding to one of the plurality of sets of RAN parameters.
19. The radio communication equipment of claim 18, wherein the instructions, when executed by the processor, further cause the processor to:
