Claim
1. A network device comprising:
a transmitter; a receiver; a processor operatively coupled to the transmitter and the receiver; and the processor is configured to select a value of a multi-level transmit power control (TPC) command from a plurality of pre-defined values that includes at least two values up or at least two values down; wherein the processor is further configured to have the transmitter transmit, on a single channel, an allocation of an uplink resource and the multi-level TPC command; and wherein the receiver is configured to receive, from user equipment (UE), an uplink signal on the allocated uplink resource based on the transmitted allocation of the uplink resource and the multi-level TPC command.
2. The network device of claim 1, wherein the processor is further configured to have the transmitter transmit, to the UE, an indication as to whether accumulation of TPC commands is enabled.
3. The network device of claim 1, wherein the uplink signal is received on an uplink shared channel.
4. The network device of claim 1, wherein the network device is any one of a Node-B or a base station.
5. The network device of claim 1, wherein the single channel is associated with a spreading factor or a code division multiple access (CDMA) code.
6. A method comprising:
selecting, by a network device, a value of a multi-level transmit power control (TPC) command from a plurality of pre-defined values that includes at least two values up or at least two values down; transmitting, by the network device to a user equipment (UE) on a single channel, an allocation of an uplink resource and the multi-level TPC command; and receiving, by the network device from the UE, an uplink signal on the allocated uplink resource based on the transmitted allocation of the uplink resource and the multi-level TPC command.
7. The method of claim 6 further comprising transmitting, by the network device to the UE, an indication as to whether accumulation of TPC commands is enabled.
8. The method of claim 6, wherein the uplink signal is received on an uplink shared channel.
9. The method of claim 6, wherein the network device is any one of a Node-B or a base station.
10. The method of claim 6, wherein the single channel is associated with a spreading factor or a code division multiple access (CDMA) code.
11. A user equipment (UE) comprising:
a transmitter; a receiver; a processor operatively coupled to the transmitter and the receiver; and the processor and the receiver are configured to receive, on a single channel, an allocation of an uplink resource and a multi-level transmit power control (TPC) command; wherein the processor is further configured to determine a transmission power level based on a value of the multi-level TPC command out of a plurality of pre-defined values for the multi-level TPC command; wherein the plurality of pre-defined values for the multi-level TPC command includes at least two values up or at least two values down; and wherein the processor is configured to have the transmitter transmit an uplink signal on the allocated uplink resource at the determined transmission power level.
12. The UE of claim 11, wherein the processor is further configured to receive an indication as to whether accumulation of TPC commands is enabled.
13. The UE of claim 12, wherein the processor is further configured to accumulate the TPC command with another TPC command in response to enablement of accumulation of TPC commands.
14. The UE of claim 11, wherein the uplink signal is transmitted on an uplink shared channel.
15. The UE of claim 11, wherein the UE is one of a code division multiple access (CDMA) UE or a time division duplex (TDD) UE.
16. The UE of claim 11, wherein the single channel is associated with a spreading factor or a code division multiple access (CDMA) code.
