Abstract
Radio protocol for a next generation mobile communication system is disclosed including a radio link control layer for connecting to an upper layer through a service access point provided in advance and for connecting to a lower layer through a plurality of logic channels provided in advance. The radio link control layer includes at least one radio link control entity for transmission/reception of data to/from up-link or down-link according to a form of a data transmission mode.

1. In a wireless communication system that employs a layered radio interface protocol, an apparatus comprising:
a radio link control (RLC) layer; and
a radio resource control (RRC) layer adapted to control the transfer of data between the RLC layer and a higher layer by employing one of at least two control entities depending upon the characteristics of the data being transferred, the at least two control entities including:
a first control entity adapted to control the transfer of broadcast data; and
a second control entity adapted to control paging and notification data.', 'a radio link control (RLC) layer; and', 'a radio resource control (RRC) layer adapted to control the transfer of data between the RLC layer and a higher layer by employing one of at least two control entities depending upon the characteristics of the data being transferred, the at least two control entities including:', 'a first control entity adapted to control the transfer of broadcast data; and', 'a second control entity adapted to control paging and notification data.
2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the RRC is further adapted to control the transfer of data between the RLC layer and a higher layer by employing a third control entity adapted to control the transfer of data that involves the setting or cancelling of a connection.
3. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein the RRC layer is further adapted to control the transfer of data between the RRC layer and the RLC layer by employing a transparent mode entity (TME), the TME adapted to map each of the control entities to one of a plurality of service access points in the RLC layer.
4. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein the one service access point in the RLC layer is a transparent service access point (T-SAP).
