Abstract
Systems methods and instrumentalities are disclosed for a WTRU to act as a mobile relay the method comprising the WTRU connecting to the network the WTRU receiving a message from the network indicating that the WTRU is to act as a mobile relay for one or more devices outside of the coverage of the network the WTRU discovering one or more devices outside of the coverage of the network and the WTRU receiving a message from the out-of- coverage device that indicates that the out-of-coverage device has selected the WTRU to act as a mobile relay.

Claim
1. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) comprising:', 'a memory; and', 'a processor configured to:', 'receive transmissions from two or more mobile relays, the transmissions comprising a first transmission from a first mobile relay and a second transmission from a second mobile relay;', 'determine a first channel quality based on the first transmission from the first mobile relay and a second channel quality based on the second transmission from the second mobile relay;', 'determine whether one or more of the first channel quality or the second channel quality exceed a configured threshold, wherein the configured threshold is associated with a required channel quality corresponding to application layer data to be transmitted to or from the WTRU via one or more of the two or more mobile relays;', 'rank each of the two or more mobile relays that exceeded the configured threshold;', 'select the first mobile relay based on the first mobile relay being the highest ranked mobile relay that supports a service associated with the application layer data; send a request to connect with the first mobile relay; and', 'connect with the first mobile relay selected by the WTRU.
2. The WTRU of claim 1, wherein the WTRU periodically measures the first channel quality, and is further configured to:', 'determine the second channel quality exceeds the configured threshold during a subsequent measurement opportunity on a condition that the WTRU determines, based on the measurements, that the first channel quality is below the configured threshold; determine the second mobile relay supports the service associated with the application layer data;', 'send a request to connect with the second mobile relay, the second mobile relay being selected , wherein the second mobile relay is the highest ranked mobile relay of the two or more mobile relays during the subsequent measurement opportunity; and', 'disconnect with the first mobile relay and connect with the second mobile relay selected by the WTRU.
3. The WTRU of claim 1, wherein the transmissions comprise identifications for the two or more mobile relays.
4. The WTRU of claim 3, wherein the WTRU is further configured to report the received identifications for the two or more mobile relays to an evolved Node-B (eNB).
5. The WTRU of claim 4, wherein the identifications for the two or more mobile relays include mobile relay layer 2 identification (ID) or physical layer ID.
6. The WTRU of claim 1, wherein the WTRU is further configured to:', 'determine a connection with an evolved Node-B (eNB) is no longer available; and send a discovery request to a mobile relay, wherein the discovery request comprises a proximity service (ProSe) code and an identifier of the WTRU.
7. The WTRU of claim 6, wherein the ProSe code is hard coded in the WTRU.
8. The WTRU of claim 6, wherein the identifier is part of an application code within the discovery request.
9. The WTRU of claim 1, wherein the WTRU is further configured to:', 'receive a notification from the first mobile relay over PC5, wherein the notification is associated with losing the connection with the eNB ;', 'send a discovery request for the second mobile relay on PC5;', 'determine the channel quality of the second mobile relay on PC5 is above the configured threshold;', 'determine the second mobile relay supports the service associated with the application layer data;', 'send a request to connect with the second mobile relay, wherein the second mobile relay being selected by the WTRU, wherein the second mobile relay is the highest ranked mobile relay of the two or more mobile relays; and', 'disconnect with the first mobile relay and establish a one-one-one connection with the second mobile relay selected by the WTRU
10. The WTRU of claim 9, wherein the notification is received via PHY-layer signaling or RRC layer control signaling
11. The WTRU of claim 1 , wherein the request is for a one-to-one connection with the first mobile relay and comprises a Proximity Service (ProSe) Identification (ID) of the WTRU
12. The WTRU of claim 1, wherein the WTRU is further configured to send the request to an evolved Node-B (eNB) for resource configuration
13. The WTRU of claim 1, wherein the request triggers an assignment of resources to the WTRU
14. The WTRU of claim 1, wherein the selection is based on one or more of a type of the service, public land mobile network identification (PLMN ID) announced, mobile relay specific information, and temporary mobile group identity (TMGI)
15. The WTRU of claim 1, wherein the configured threshold is part of a radio resource control (RRC) configuration
16. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) comprising:', 'a memory; and', 'a processor configured to:', 'receive transmissions from two or more mobile relays, the transmissions comprising a first transmission from a first mobile relay and a second transmission from a second mobile relay;', 'determine a first channel quality based on the first transmission from the first mobile relay and a second channel quality based on the second transmission from the second mobile relay;', 'send a request to connect with the first mobile relay, the first mobile relay being selected by the WTRU in response to a first trigger; and', 'connect with the first mobile relay selected by the WTRU in response to a second trigger.', "17. The WTRU of claim 16, wherein the trigger may comprise one or more of direct instruction by the eNB, quality of a link between the first mobile relay and an evolved Node-B (eNB) (Uu) measured by the WTRU as falling below a configured threshold, lower layers declaring out-of-syncronication radio link failure (RLF), radio resource control (RRC) connection re-establishment failure, expiry of any timer associated with RRC connection re-establishment, RLC unrecoverable error, handover failure, the first relay WTRU's not announcing a requested service by the WTRU, another relay WTRU announcing the requested service, a channel quality of another relay WTRU above the configured threshold, and a reception of a relay redirection message."18. A first wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) comprising:', 'a memory; and', 'a processor configured to:', 'register with an evolved Node-B (eNB) as capable of performing a mobile relay, wherein the first WTRU is under coverage of the eNB;', 'receive a discovery request, wherein the discovery request comprises a code and a identifier of a second WTRU;', 'report the reception of the discovery request to the eNB via radio resource control (RRC) message, medium access control (MAC) control element (CE), or application message;', 'receive mobile relay configuration from the eNB; and establish a connection with the second WTRU as the mobile relay according to the mobile relay configuration received from the eNB
19. The WTRU of claim 18, wherein the WTRU is further configured to send to the second WTRU indications of different behaviors associated with multiple levels of configured thresholds.

The WTRU of claim 18, wherein the WTRU is further configured to:', 'communicate with the eNB through signaling;', 'determine whether signal quality is below a first configured threshold and a second configured threshold;', 'send an notification of lost connection with the eNB, over PC5, to the second WTRU and an indication of a first behavior to be performed by the second WTRU on a
condition that the signal quality is below the first configured threshold and the signal quality is above the second configured threshold; and', 'send the notification of the lost connection with the eNB, over PC5, to the second WTRU and an indication of a second behavior to be performed by the remote WTRU on a condition that the signal quality is below the first configured threshold and the second configured threshold.
21. The WTRU of claim 20, wherein the notification comprises a medium access control (MAC) control element (CE).
22. The WTRU of claim 20, wherein the WTRU sends the notification to the one or more remote WTRU by broadcasting over PC5, wherein the broadcast comprises one or more of identification of the WTRU, TMGI, identification of potential replacement of the WTRU, resource configuration for the remote WTRU, and actions to be taken by the remote WTRU.
23. The WTRU of claim 22, wherein the WTRU addresses the one or more remote WTRU by a special L2 identifier.
24. The WTRU of claim 22, wherein the notification contains all remote WTRUs for which the WTRU receives the discovery request.
25. The WTRU of claim 20, wherein the first WTRU broadcasts control information to the second WTRU, wherein the control information comprises identification of the first WTRU, Temporary Mobile Group Identity (TMGI), and actions.
26. The WTRU of claim 25, wherein the identification comprises layer 2 identification (ID) or physical layer ID for the first WTRU.
27. The WTRU of claim 25, wherein the actions comprise one or more of start relay', 'reselection, start discovery, start measurements, start transmission on PC5, suspend transmissions on PC5, reselect to a mobile relay, reconfiguration of resource pools, and command to change resource pools.
28. The WTRU of claim 25, wherein the the control information further comprises resource pool configuration, wherein the resource pool configuration is for the second WTRU.
29. The WTRU of claim 25, wherein the control information is broadcasted in the sidelink broadcast channel (SL-BCH).
30. The WTRU of claim 29, wherein the control information is broadcasted in the reserved bits in the MasterlnformationBlock-SL.
31. A method for device to device (D2D) communication, comprising:', 'receiving transmissions from two or more mobile relays, the transmissions comprising a first transmission from a first mobile relay and a second transmission from a second mobile relay;', 'determining a first channel quality based on the first transmission from the first mobile relay and a second channel quality based on the second transmission from the second mobile relay;', 'determining whether one or more of the first channel quality or the second channel quality exceed a configured threshold, wherein the configured threshold is associated with a required channel quality corresponding to application layer data for a WTRU;', 'ranking each of the two or more mobile relays that exceeded the configured threshold;', 'selecting the first mobile relay as the highest ranked mobile relay that supports a service associated with the application layer data;', 'sending a request to connect with the first mobile relay; and', 'connecting with the first mobile relay.
32. The method of claim 31, further comprising:', 'determining the second channel quality exceeds the configured threshold during a subsequent measurement opportunity on a condition that the first channel quality is below the configured threshold;', 'determining the second mobile relay supports the service associated with the application layer data;', 'selecting the second mobile relay as the highest ranked mobile relay;
sending a request to connect with the second mobile relay; and', 'disconnecting with the first mobile relay and connecting with the second mobile']
