Abstract  Abstract

This disclosure relates generally to wireless communications, and, more particularly, to methods and apparatus for the standalone SSS (s) configured for the CC/BWP with or without SSB to improve the channel estimation, cell search performance and RRM measurement accuracy. For CC/BWP without SS block, UE can be configured with one or multiple standalone SSS (without the associated PSS/PBCH in SSB) for SSS based RRM measurement. For standalone SSS configuration, the timing offset for the starting location (frame/subframe/slot/symbol) of SSS (burst) can be given with the reference to the serving cell timing (e.g., PCell or PSCell). The exact time location of SSS can be configured following the same pattern as SSB with the corresponding SSB index. The time location of SSS can also be configured following a specific pattern with beam index implicitly associated with the SSS time location in a given pattern. For CC/BWP with SSB, the standalone SSS can also be configured close or next to an (associated) SSB as an addition to that SSB (e.g., the standalone SSS (s) symbol (s) is next to each SSB sharing with the same SSB/beam index) to improve the PBCH channel estimation, PSS/SSS sync performance and per-sync performance. In this case, the standalone SSS(s) can use the same or different sequence than SSS of the associated SSB. In case of the different sequence, the sequence of the standalone SSS can be a shift of the SSS sequence of the associated SSB, which can address the cross-correlation performance degradation between some special SSS sequences used by the different cells.
