Abstract  Abstract

The method to indicate the size of a mini cell in a mobile telephone communications system involves providing a cell size indicator in the header of the mini cell. The cell length indicator is a short fixed length field which is non-linearly coded. Preferably, the cell size indicator includes an extension bit provided in the fixed size length field. The extension bit, if set, indicates that a further fixed size length field follows the fixed size length field in the header. The length indicator includes a predefined code which, if present, indicates that a further fixed size length field follows the fixed size length field in the header.
