NETWORK-ASSISTED MOBILE TERMINAL GPS SYSTEM AND METHOD TO PROVIDE GPS ASSISTANCE DATA FOR A MOBILE STATION. A Network Assisted Mobile Terminal GPS system includes a plurality of GPS capable mobile terminals (10), each having a transceiver, and a wireless telecommunications network (32) having at least one base location transceiver (30) to transmit GPS Assistance Data to individuals of the plurality of mobile stations capable of GPS using a point-to-point signaling protocol. In the illustrative embodiment described here, the point-to-point signaling protocol is comprised of at least one of an IMSI (International Mobile Subscriber Identity) Connection signaling protocol, a Normal Location Update, or a Periodic Location Update.
