Abstract  Abstract

METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR INITIALIZING MULTICAST SERVICE IN A COMMUNICATION SYSTEM. A method and system for multicast service notification in a cellular telephone system for enabling cellular telephone systems to provide both multicast and peer-to-peer services is described. Several embodiments describe the signaling interaction between an access network and subscriber stations belonging to a multicast group to enable the access network to properly notify subscriber stations about a multicast service. Such signaling also allows subscriber stations to recognize multicast service notification for participation in the multicast service.
