Abstract
Invention Patent: CHANNEL STRUCTURE FOR COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS. In a channel structure for use in communication systems, two sets of physical channels are used, one for the outgoing connection (50) and the other for the return connection (52) to facilitate the communication of a variety of logical channels. The physical channels comprise data and control channels. In the exemplary modality, the data channels comprise fundamental channels that are used for the transmission of voice traffic, data traffic, high-speed data and other overhead information and supplementary channels that are used for the transmission of high data velocity. Fundamental channels can be released when remote stations are at rest to make full use of available capacity. The control channels are used for the transmission of paging or alert and control messages, as well as programming or scheduling information.
