Abstract  Abstract

PROCESSES TO TRANSPORT PACKAGES OF INTERNET PROTOCOL DATA IN A NETWORK ENVIRONMENT, AND TO TRANSPORT A PACKAGE OF INTERNET PROTOCOL DATA THROUGH AN AAL2 CONNECTION. The efficiency of bandwidth utilization and transmission associated with the point-to-point transport of Internet protocol (IP) data packets is improved, employing layer two adaptation (AAL2) mini cells in asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) as carriers. The efficiency of bandwidth utilization and transmission can be further enhanced by mapping one or more data fields from the header portion of the IP data packets into one or more lookup tables, and then transporting the lookup table addresses in the AAL2 minicell headers, instead of the data associated with one or more data fields in the IP data packet headers.
