Abstract  Abstract

PART OF THE RADIO ACCESS NETWORK OF A TELECOMMUNICATIONS NETWORK AND PROCESS OF OPERATING A TELECOMMUNICATIONS NETWORK . A radio access network portion of a telecommunications network (18) serving a mobile station (MS) is connected to a main network. The radio access network portion has a plurality of base stations (BS) serving respective multiple cells (C), as well as a plurality of control nodes (RNCs). The control nodes include a first control node (RNC) to control a first group of the plurality of base stations and a second control node (RNC2) to control a second group of the plurality of base stations. A multicellular area (MCA) includes cells served by at least some of the first group of base stations and cells served by at least some of the second group of base stations. The radio access network part of a telecommunications network additionally has a radio call control node that stores information related to the multicellular area. To radio call the mobile station in the multicellular area, the radio call control node (1) transmits radio call messages to each of the base stations serving the multicellular area controlled by the radio call control node; and (2) send a radio call message to any other control nodes that control base stations serving cells in the multicellular area. The radio call control node determines for any base stations and other control nodes must transmit radio call messages referring to a radio call table (100). Preferably, the radio call control node is one of the control nodes of the radio access network. The radio call control node is connected to the other control nodes by an intercontrol node link (32) through which the radio call message is transmitted.
