Abstract  Abstract

A method and system for a general packet radio service network in the suspension of packet data protocol context. Timeout period include the request message establishing packet data protocol context of information (120). request information (120) from the first General Packet Radio Service Support Node (110) to the second General Packet Radio Service Support Node (130). the second General Packet Radio Service Support Node (130) receives the request message (120) and transmits a response message (140) to the first General Packet Radio Service Support Node (110). if the second General Packet Radio Service Support Node (130) is unable to create packet data protocol context in the timeout period the response message (140) informs the first General Packet Radio Service Support Node (110) packet data protocol context creation has been aborted. the network service access point identifier can be included in the response message (140) to the first General Packet Radio Service Support Node (110) may request the second General Packet Radio Service Support Node (130) after N3-T3 times out the first General Packet Radio Service Support Node (110) has stop deleting request to create a packet data protocol context.

A method and system for avoiding hanging Packet Data Protocol contexts in a General Packet Radio Service network. A time-out period is included in a request message (120) to create a Packet Data Protocol context. The request message (120) is transmitted from a first General Packet Radio Service Support Node (110) to a second General Packet Radio Service Support Node (130). The second General Packet Radio Service Support Node (130) receives the request message (120) and transmits a response message (140) to the first General Packet Radio Service Support Node (110). If the second General Packet Radio Service Support Node (130) is unable to create the Packet Data Protocol context within the time-out period the response message (140) informs the first General Packet Radio Service Support Node (110) that creation of the Packet Data Protocol context has been aborted. A Network Service Access Point Identifier may be included in the response message (140) so that the first General Packet Radio Service Support Node (110) may request the second General Packet Radio Service Support Node (130) to delete the request for creating the Packet Data Protocol context after a N3-T3 timeout of the first General Packet Radio Service Support Node (110) has expired.
