Abstract  Abstract

The invention claims techniques for using multiple carriers to substantially improve the technology of transmission capacity. For multi-carrier operation the terminal receives a plurality of forward link (FL) carriers and at least one reverse link (RL) carrier allocation. carrier can be set in at least one group each group comprising at least one FL carrier and one RL carrier. RL carrier terminal for FL carrier in each group on the received packet which can be used by the group of sending acknowledgement for the received packet. the terminal can be sent for the group of FL carriers in channel quality indication (CQI) reports via the RL carrier in each group. terminal can also transmit data on the RL carrier. terminal capable of sending designated RL signalling (e.g. for initiating a call) on a primary RL carrier as well as on the primary FL carrier receive designated FL signaling (e.g. for call setup).
