Abstract
Methods and systems for common search space configuration and system information acquisition are described. As part of the methods and systems, a base station (120) wirelessly communicating with a user equipment (110) that is in an engaged mode determines (402) to configure a common search space through which the user equipment (110) can receive a system information block that is other than a system information block type 1 or a master information block (705). The base station (120) transmits a first message (715) that includes a set of common search space configuration parameters for the user equipment (110) to receive the other system information block. The base station (120) transmits (730), in accordance with the set of common search space configuration parameters, a second message that includes the other system information block.

2. The method as recited in claim 1, wherein the common search space configuration parameters identify resources of an active bandwidth part of a unified air interface between the base station and the user equipment.
3. The method as recited in claim 1 or claim 2, wherein the engaged mode corresponds to an RRC CONNECTED state.
4. The method as recited in any of claims 1-3, wherein the first message is transmitted using dedicated signaling.
5. The method as recited in any of claims 1-4, wherein transmitting the additional messages includes transmitting a public warning system message, an earthquake and tsunami warning system message, or a commercial mobile alert system message.
6. The method as recited in any of claims 1-5, further comprising the base station receiving, from a core network, the set of common search space configuration parameters for the other system information block and another set of common search space configuration parameters for a system information block type1.
7. The method as recited in any of claims 1-6, wherein the base station transmits the second message that includes the other system information block prior to transmitting another message that includes a system information block type 1 or a master information block.
8. The method as recited in claim 7, wherein the first message includes an additional set of common search space configuration parameters for the user equipment to receive the system information block type 1 or the master information block.
9. A method performed by a user equipment wirelessly communicating with a base station, the user equipment in an engaged mode and the method comprising:', 'receiving, by the user equipment and from the base station, a first message that includes a set of common search space configuration parameters for the user equipment to receive an other system information block;', 'configuring, by the user equipment, a wireless transceiver of the user equipment to monitor a common search space for the other system information block in accordance with the set of common search space configuration parameters;', 'receiving, by the user equipment and from the base station using, a second message that includes the other system information block, the second message received through the common search space; and', 'transmitting, by the user equipment and to the base station, additional messages in accordance with system information parameters acquired from the other system information block
10. The method as recited in claim 9, wherein:', 'the engaged mode corresponds to an RRC CONNECTED state; and', 'the user equipment receives the first message using an active bandwidth part that is associated with the RRC CONNECTED state
11. The method as recited in claim 9 or claim 10, wherein the transceiver of the user equipment monitors the common search space for the other system information block prior to receiving a system information block type1
12. The method as recited in any of claims 9-11, wherein the other system information block indicates a system information change
13. The method as recited in any of claims 9-12, wherein the first message is an RRCReconfiguration message
14. The method as recited in claim 9 or claim 10 wherein the first message includes an additional set of common search space configuration parameters for the user equipment to receive a system information block or a master information block
15. A base station comprising:', 'a processor; and', 'a computer-readable storage medium having a search space manager application that, when executed by the processor, directs the base station to perform any one of method claims 1-8
16. A user equipment comprising:', 'a processor; and', 'a computer-readable storage medium having a system information block manager application that, when executed by the processor, directs the user equipment to perform any one of method cl ims 9-14.']
