Abstract  Abstract

Method to provide a dynamic correspondence between channel numbers and physical frequencies for a part of the cells of a cellular telephone system, said method being used for a cellular telephone system in which the physical frequencies are represented by channel numbers and in that a fixed correspondence between channel numbers and physical frequencies is provided, said cellular telephone system being composed of a plurality of terrestrial public mobile networks, each of which provides coverage to a different set of cells of the cellular telephone system, the dynamic correspondence being used by a specific public land mobile network and, therefore, by all the cells to which said public land mobile network provides cellular communication service, said method including the following steps: a) select a set of physical frequencies ; b) select, from the channel numbers, a sufficient set of channel numbers that correspond one by one with the selected physical frequencies; c) determine a dynamic correspondence of the selected physical frequencies with the selected set of channel numbers; and d) provide the mobile phones located in the cells of the public land mobile network with an information element indicating the dynamic correspondence, said information element including sufficient information to determine the first and last channel number of the dynamic correspondence and the First and last physical frequency of dynamic correspondence.
