Abstract
Use in the case of a cellular telephone system that provides a dynamic mapping of channel numbers to physical frequencies for several cells of a cellular telephone system, representing physical frequencies by channel numbers and providing a fixed mapping of channel numbers to physical frequencies Methods and apparatus are provided for the following. The method includes providing an information element representing the dynamic mapping and maintains compatibility with an existing channel number space so that no existing signaling messages are altered. The method also provides a change in dynamic mapping. A duplicated mapping is broadcast, in which two non-overlapping sets of channel numbers are mapped to at least partly the same frequency block, which broadcast is assumed to be sufficient to allow any mobile phones operating in cells to decode the duplicated mapping. Lasts for hours.
