Abstract  Abstract

An HSDPA high-speed downlink packet access communication method on a plurality of communication layers between a plurality of base stations and a plurality of remote stations in a communication system, the method comprising, at the base station: transmitting a first data packet (930) to the plurality of remote stations, where the first data packet assigns the subsequent downlink resource, and at the remote station: receiving the first data packet; at the base station; transmitting a second data packet (940) to the remote station in the assigned resource, where the second data packet does not comprise data to be distributed to a MAC layer or an upper layer of the plurality of communication layers; at the remote station: receiving the second data packet in the assigned resource, and in response to it transmitting channel quality information (950) to the base station; and at the base station: receive information on the quality of the channel (950) from a remote station, in response to the transmission of the second data packet; and use the information received from the quality of the channel, to control the communication by HSDPA.
