Abstract  Abstract

A method (500) for controlling the discontinuous reception, DRX, in a wireless transmission / reception unit, WTRU (110), the method comprising: that the WTRU receives a DRX configuration comprising a plurality of DRX levels and a value for a WTRU timer, each of the plurality of DRX levels comprising at least one DRX cycle length, in which the WTRU timer is used to make an implicit transition between DRX levels; that the WTRU operates at a first DRX level of the plurality of DRX levels; the one that the WTRU determines that the timer of the WTRU has expired; and that, in response to the determination that the timer of the WTRU has expired, the WTRU makes a transition from the first DRX level to a second DRX level of the plurality of DRX levels without receiving explicit signaling from a station base (120) for transitioning from the first level of DRX to the second level of DRX, the second level of DRX comprising a length of second cycle of DRX that is multiple of a length of first cycle of DRX of the first level of DRX .
