Abstract  Abstract

A method of encoding video data, the method comprising: encoding (161) a random access point image, RAP; wherein the RAP image comprises one between a random clean access image, CRA, and a broken link access image, BLA; encode one or more skipped main random access images, RASL, associated with the RAP image, where the one or more RASL images precede the RAP image in the output order value and follow the RAP image in order decoding and refer to video data prior to the RAP image in the order of decoding; encode (162) one or more decodable main random access images, RADL, for the RAP image, according to a restriction that all RASL images precede the RADLs associated with the RAP image in output order, where the RADLs comprise one or more images that have output order values that indicate an output order prior to an output order value of the RAP image and that have decode order values that indicate a decoding order subsequent to a value. of decoding order of the RAP image, and in which the one or more images do not refer to video data prior to the RAP image in decoding order.
